The Jindabyne Flyfishing School offers a wide range of facilities to assist in both the instructional and practice areas of flyfishing. To make our Courses truly successful we started with a unique purpose-built Casting Pond and three stocked mand-made Dams. These enable us to simulate almost any Flyfishing environment or habitat.

Unique Casting Pond

Our specially designed and totally Unique Casting Pond is one of the best of its kind in Australia. Featuring a pond size that is 45 feet x 80 feet (25m x 15m) and a special pumping system, we are able to simulate almost any water movement or displacement condition.

The Casting Pond can confortably accommodate six studenst plus their instructors. We have also made the Casting Pond wheelchair friendly to assist the disabled.

With the use of the casting Pond you are able to improve your level of expertise whilst allowing the instructors to make individual analysis on your technique and form. It also provides consistent conditions so you are able to hone specific skills, and best of all... you have access to the Casting Pond at anytime during your stay.

A Dam for All Conditions

Utilising the natural landscape that surrounds Mowamba River Lodge, three man made dams have been created that are interconnected with waterfalls and races. These have all been designed in such a way as to encourage spawning and to keep the water aerated and continuously fresh.

The Smallest Dam on offer is located above the larger two and is ideal for taking your first trout using and testing your Flyfishing Skills and Techniques. The Middle Dam is considerably larger and better suited to those people learning ‘polaroiding techniques’ and ‘mid water depth’ fishing.

The largest Dam at the Jindabyne Flyfishing School is has a much greater depth and is extremely good for both Wet and Dry Flyfishing Techniques. Due to the much larger size it is also ideal for teaching ‘Deepwater Techniques’ for Saltwater Flyfishing.

Each Dam is stocked with fish that fend for themselves as nature intended. These fish have not been coddled in any way as they offer ‘True Sport’ and a ‘True Challenge’ when they have to fight for survival as their species is inclined to.
